Concho County's county seat is Paint Rock. The county was founded in 1858 and later organized in 1879. It is named for the Concho River.
The county seat is named for pictographs said to be the largest Native American site in the US. It hosts over 1,500 pictographs in a variety of colors that include animal and human figures, geometrics, and hand prints.
At the 2020 census, the population was 3,303.
